Students have the opportunity to apply for a number of privately funded scholarships that are applicable to a variety of CFANS majors. Fall Semester Deadlines

Minnesota Farm Bureau Foundation Scholarships $500

Farm Bureau awards four $500 scholarships at the annual meeting in November. Eligible applicants include any person who is a Farm Bureau member or qualifies under their family's membership. Applicants must be going into their junior or senior year in college and be enrolled in agriculture, conservation, or forestry. Learn more. 

Throlson American Bison Foundation Scholarships

Majors: Agricultural and Food Business Management, Applied Economics, Animal Science
Deadline to apply: October 1, 2019
The Throlson American Bison Foundation awards scholarships totaling $9,000 to college junior, senior or graduate students studying fields related to the bison industry. The scholarship is for the Spring 2017 semester. For more information visit the National Bison Association website.

Gates-Cambridge Scholarships

Kiss My Keto Ketogenic Diet Research Scholarship $2500

Craig Sallstrom Memorial Scholarship $1000

Majors: Food Systems, Plant Science

This scholarship will be awarded by the Minnesota Crop Production Retailers (MCPR)to a student entering their sophomore, junior or senior year in a major focused on crop production. Applicant must be a Minnesota resident; application involves two short essays, one letter of recommendation and official transcript. Download the application from the MCPR website.

uPonics Hydroponics/ Aquaponics Scholarship $1000

Majors: Any are welcome to apply; most relevant are Agricultural and Food Business Management, Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering, Environmental Science, Policy and Management, Food Systems, Plant Science, and Sustainable Systems Management

uPonics will award one $1000 scholarship to a student with the best essay on a topic related to how hydroponics and/ or aquaponics is a sustainable method of agriculture. See details for application.

U of M Asian American and Pacific Islander Scholarship

The AANAPISI Scholarship is open to all U of M undergraduates who identify as Asian American or Pacific Islander (AAPI). The scholarship will award up to a one-time scholarship of $2,500 for the 2019 fall semester or a multi-year $5,000 scholarship - depending on the availability of funds. Yenching Academy Scholarships

Lake Minnetonka Garden Club Scholarship

Lake Minnetonka Garden Club (LMGC) will provide up to $2500 annually, awarded to one student or divided between two students. Scholarships will be awarded on merit with consideration given to GPA, letters of recommendation, community activities, associations or organizations, work experience and plans after graduation. Goldwater Scholarships

National Corn Growers Association Academic Excellence in Agriculture Scholarship Program $1000

MN Chapter, American Fisheries Society Scholarship

The Minnesota Chapter of the American Fisheries Society (MN AFS) will be offering at least one $900 scholarship to a junior or senior pursuing a degree in fisheries, water resources, aquatic biology, or aquatic environmental science for the 2018-19 academic year. Avacare Medical Scholarship $1000

Boren Scholarships

Up to $20,000 for study abroad with a focus on immersive language study, especially in those languages identified as critical by the State Department. Applicants interested in careers with the U.S. government are favored, and all recipients must commit to a year of service related to national security. Learn more.

Mid America CropLife Association (MACA) Young Leader Scholarship Program

Majors: Agriculture-related

A $2,000 scholarship plus travel stipend will be awarded to a sophomore or junior with an educational focus on agriculture. Recipients must have a summer internship related to agriculture secured and be able to attend the MACA Annual Meeting in Indianapolis, IN September 3- 5, 2019. All expenses will be paid. Truman Scholarships

Upper Midwest Dairy Industry Association Scholarship

The UMDIA Gene Watnaas Scholarship Fund provides up to two $1000 scholarships for students pursuing a degree in Animal Science with dairy production emphasis or Dairy Food Science. See application materials.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Ernest F. Hollings Undergraduate Scholarship

Majors: disciplines related to oceanic, environmental, biological and atmospheric sciences, engineering, hydrology, and other related areas

The Hollings Scholarship Program provides successful undergraduate applicants with awards that include academic assistance (up to $9,500 per year) for two years of full-time study and a 10-week, full-time paid ($700/week) internship at a NOAA facility during the summer. Horticulture Scholarship of the Western Reserve Herb Society $7,500

Targeting Excellence Scholarships $2000

Explore the World Travel Scholarships $2000

The MN Region of Hostelling International USA is offering three $2,000 travel scholarships exclusively for Twin Cities area residents and college students. The scholarship is open to individuals, ages 18-30, who will engage in an educational or service learning component during their trip.  Eligible candidates must also meet specific financial need requirements. Learn more.

The Lynn Johnson – Johnson Brothers Scholarship in Entrepreneurship

The Lynn Johnson – Johnson Brothers Memorial Scholarship in Entrepreneurship honors the legacy of Lynn Johnson, founder of the St. Paul-based Johnson Brothers Liquor Company. The scholarship will support full-time UMTC juniors and seniors, with financial need, who have a strong, demonstrated interest in entrepreneurial initiatives. As many as 5 new scholarships will be awarded at up to $5000 for the academic year to help cover students’ cost of attendance.

Intertribal Timber Council Truman D. Picard Scholarship Program $2500

The Truman D. Picard Scholarship Program is dedicated to the support of Native American students pursuing a higher education in Natural Resources.  The application involves a letter, resume, transcript and evidence of enrollment, as well as three reference letters. Annie's Homegrown Sustainable Agriculture Scholarship Program

Majors: Any (applicant must have some coursework and/ or extracurricular activities related to sustainable agriculture, however)

Annie's Sustainable Agriculture Scholarship Program is open to full time undergraduate and graduate students. 15 students will be selected to each receive $10,000. Sustainable Agriculture and Forestry Scholarship $5000

Ecolab Learning Abroad Scholarships

Projects can be led on or off campus, but student applicants must identify a University or Community professional who is able to serve as a project advisor. Izaak Walton League of America Scholarship

The Les Dames d’Escoffier Scholarship for Culinary Education is given to qualified female applicants pursuing fulltime academic coursework in the fields of culinary arts, hospitality, nutrition,

Applicants are judged on their career and academic goals and performance, leadership qualities, financial resourcefulness, volunteer and community involvement in the culinary world, and references. U of M Women's Club Scholarship

The University of Minnesota Women's Club Scholarship (typical amount is $2500) is awarded to students who are MN residents, and have demonstrated academic ability and leadership experience, and a breadth of skills, interests, and extracurricular activities. To be considered for this scholarship a student must be a full-time Twin Cities undergraduate with sophomore, junior or senior status, 3.2 GPA, MN resident, and demonstrate financial need as determined by the Office of Student Finance. Dr. Nancy "Rusty" Barcelo Scholarship
