CFANS Academic Year Scholarships
Dozens of scholarships are available to CFANS undergraduates each year. Typically 100-200 CFANS students earn awards between $500 and $5000.
Students apply online via one application form (details below). The college then selects a pool of qualified students and assigns specific scholarships. Scholarship decisions are based on criteria such as scholastic achievement, consistency of academic record, extracurricular and leadership activities, major and career objectives, place of residence, grade level, and financial need.
To be eligible for a CFANS Academic Year Scholarship, you must be enrolled as a full-time CFANS student—at least 13 credits per semester. (The only exception is a need-based scholarship for the summer Cloquet field sessions.) You must also show evidence of making due progress towards graduation in an approved CFANS major, and remain in good academic standing. Students in all CFANS majors are eligible to apply.
Students with multiple-year or multiple-semester awards from CFANS that carry into the 2018-2019 academic year are not eligible. Students who will be in their sixth year or beyond in 2018-2019 are not eligible to receive a college scholarship. Other eligibility criteria are outlined on the application and/or award information sheets.
Department scholarship eligibility
If you are not eligible for a college scholarship but have been instructed to use this application for a department/major scholarship, please contact the scholarship coordinator (firstname.lastname@example.org) to gain access to the application. Apply and write "Department Scholarship Application Only" in the first line of your response to question #1 on the application and then complete the rest of the questions. Note that your major may have a specific question at the end of the application form.
Students in the following majors will be considered for department/major scholarships by filling out this application: Agricultural Education, Agricultural and Food Business Management, Agricultural Communication and Marketing, Applied Economics, Environmental Sciences, Policy and Management (juniors only), Fisheries, Wildlife and Conservation Biology, Food Science, Food Systems, Forest and Natural Resource Mangement, Nutrition, and Plant Science. If you are in a different major, your department (such as Animal Science) may offer scholarships but is using a separate application process and may have a separate deadline. Talk to your department for information.
How do I apply?
Complete this online application form. The application for 2018-19 scholarships will close at 11:59 p.m. on March 1, 2018. This deadline is firm; there are no extensions.
A COMPLETED online application will be reviewed by the CFANS Scholarship Committee. You may log into the application as many times as you want before the deadline and make changes before completing the final "submit" step. Please be sure to read the instructions and checklist at the end of the application. Incomplete/ unsubmitted applications will not be reviewed. You may want to prepare all your short answer responses in advance, then copy and paste your information into the application form when you're ready to submit it.
How are recipients selected?
The Scholarship Committee selects recipients based on criteria established by the sponsors of each available scholarship. Some scholarship criteria are outlined on the application. The committee will screen applications and make decisions based on the information you submit.
How will I be notified?
CFANS will email you in May to tell you which scholarship(s) you have been awarded, if any. If you have also applied for financial aid (completed the FAFSA), you will receive a second notice in July that outlines your complete financial aid package including grants, scholarships, loans, Expected Family Contribution, etc.
