Transfer Students: Admission Requirements

Admission to the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS) is competitive. Admission is based on an overall assessment of the applicant's academic record, and on the applicant's potential for success in their designated major. Primary review factors include cumulative grade point average, also grades in math and sciences, and in coursework related to the major.

Admissions Requirements

The guidelines and requirements listed below are for applicants who are transferring from another school, and for current U of M students who wish to transfer into CFANS.

General Guidelines:

  • Successful transfer applicants will have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  • Successful transfer applicants will have completed College Algebra (or higher) before enrolling at the U of M. The course must be completed with a grade of C- or better.
  • Most successful applicants will have a strong foundation in math and science.
  • Priority consideration is given to applicants who intend to graduate from CFANS (not from another U of M college).
  • For transfer applicants who have completed fewer than 26 college credits, applications are reviewed for college academics and the following:
    • successful completion of the high school course requirement
    • high school rank percentile (students from non-ranking schools, and those with GED or other high school equivalency, are given full consideration)
    • ACT or SAT scores
    • rigor of the high school curriculum
