What type of content should I submit? How long can it be?

  • Upcoming events for students: Please include a very brief summary of the event, the date/time/location/cost, contact info, and a link. Be sure the event is open to and relevant to most CFANS students.
  • Timely news and announcements that are relevant to most CFANS students or have a strong CFANS connection.
  • Resources and tools that help students academically or professionally.
  • Unique opportunities for students within the CFANS community.

Length: Please send a one-paragraph snippet (no more than 100 words). Include a link. Blurbs in the CFANS Student News are meant to be short summaries with a link for more detailed information. Note that we often shorten/edit content.

What content should I not submit?
Job and internship postings (see below); descriptions of specific classes; detailed or personal announcements about individuals or small projects. We welcome all kinds of content, but we'll let you know if the content doesn't match our guidelines. Our goal is to provide content that's relevant to most CFANS undergraduate students. If you have content that isn't a good fit for the Student News, see below for other ways to reach students.

How do I submit content? Where do I send it?
Send your brief blurb to Holly Klinger: kling175@umn.edu. (Please say in your email that it's for the Student News.) See publication/submission dates above.

Where can I publicize specific student jobs or internships?
The U of M provides two websites for job and internship postings: GoldPASS, and Central HR's Student Employment listings. (U of M units should follow HR's instructions for posting there. Your internal HR rep can usually help.) Those two websites are the best way to reach U of M students, because that's where students are told to look for job or internship postings. At CFANS, we want to encourage our students to get used to and take advantage of those resources. GoldPASS includes full-time positions too, and is available exclusively to U of M students and alumni.
NOTE: For non-UM organizations looking to hire students, contact Career & Internship Services for guidance.

How else can I reach CFANS students?

  • The CFANS Facebook page is a good option. To post there, simply like the page in Facebook, then post your snippet directly on the wall.
  • Departmental newsletters and departmental social media are a good place to promote content that's specific to one major or to a small group of students. See this list of CFANS departmental communications options. Contact those sources directly.

Who creates CFANS Student News?
It's produced by the CFANS Student Services office, with contributions from staff, faculty and students in the CFANS or U of M community. Feel free to contact Holly Klinger at kling175@umn.edu if you have questions that aren't answered here.
