Careers in Law Fair
Wednesday, March 9

Wiley Hall Atrium
This fair is not only for students considering law school, but for anyone considering a career related to the legal field. Speak with representatives from law schools, government agencies, paralegal programs, nonprofits, criminal justice organizations, political offices, and LSAT prep programs. Stop by any time to learn and ask questions about graduate school requirements, volunteer programs, internship experiences, and professions in the legal community. Learn more; registration in advance is not required.

CFANS Virtual Networking Hour

Curious about careers in your major or interest areas? Want to connect with others in your discipline? Log in and chat with CFANS alumni and professionals online! During this hour-long virtual networking event, connect with fellow CFANS community members - alumni, students, faculty, staff, and friends - to meet new people, share insights, and get advice. Small World Coffee Hour

Join the St. Paul Small World Coffee Hour’s second event of the semester! Did you know people in Spain and Latin America eat grapes for good luck? Or that origami cranes are used for good luck in Japan? Come and learn about good luck rituals around the world with free food, coffee, and great conversations!

SciSpark 2016: Women in Science
Monday, March 28
5 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
St. Paul Student Center
Enjoy succinct takes on topics ranging from sustainable food production to remote sensing and big data in agriculture. Twelve scientists, all women, across three colleges (CFANS, CBS, and VetMed) will present 5 minute lightning talks for SciSpark 2016. Refreshments available starting at 5 p.m.; food and conversation to follow. This event is free, and everyone is invited to attend! RSVP: z.umn.edu/scispark2016

Great Lakes Career Ready Internship Grant
Looking to explore career opportunities and develop professional skills? Find an unpaid internship and apply for a Great Lakes Grant! Grant recipients will be paid at the rate of $10/hour, up to a maximum of $2,250, or 225 hours of work at their internship site. Learn about eligibility requirements and how to apply. 

May & Summer Short-Term Study Abroad Programs with CFANS
Earn academic credit while traveling to a unique international destination. Don't wait to apply - applications are due March 15!

  • France: Earn four credits in Sustainable Food Chains and French, May 24 – June 24
  • Bahamas: Earn two credits in Tropical Marine Biology, August 3 – 11
  • Mexico: Earn two credits in Crop Field Research, August 4 – 11

CFANS Student Awards -- Call for Nominations

Nominations due March 11

Undergraduate award - nominate a peer!
The Dean E.M. Freeman Award is presented to a graduating senior who has demonstrated an unusual sense of personal responsibility for the welfare of the University of Minnesota and its community. Student organizations may serve as nominators for this award, so student leaders are encouraged to nominate someone from their club or organization. The recipient will receive a medal and a $100 honorarium. See details and nomination instructions.

Graduate Award - nominate your favorite grad assistant!
The Graduate Assistant Teaching Award recognizes a Graduate Assistant who demonstrates excellence in teaching undergraduates. The recipient will receive a certificate and $1500 honorarium. See details and nomination instructions.

Postgraduate Study in Asia Info Session

The Lynn Johnson – Johnson Brothers Memorial Scholarship in Entrepreneurship - $5,000
Apply by: March 9
This scholarship will support full-time UMTC juniors and seniors, with financial need, who have a strong, demonstrated interest in entrepreneurial initiatives. Applications are encouraged from students in all UMTC undergraduate colleges. Up to 10 scholarships at $5,000 each will be awarded for the 2016-17 academic year to help cover students’ cost of attendance. See the online application for more details.

Targeting Excellence Scholarships - $2000
Apply by: March 15
$2,000 scholarships are available for students completing a 4-year degree in an agricultural program. Preference will be given to applicants with a desire to work in some aspect of food animal production. For more information, visit the Targeting Excellence website.

United FCS Scholarships - $500
Apply by: March 15
United FCS is offering up to 24 $500 student scholarships throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin. Recipients are selected based on academic achievement, leadership qualities, community and extra-curricular involvement. Recipient or his/ her parents must be a customer of United FCS. See application.

AFA National Leader and Academic Scholarships
Apply by: March 18
AFA and its partners are offering a variety of scholarships with one application form. All scholarships include sponsorship to AFA's national convention in Kansas City, MO, a $1,000 value. See eligibility criteria and apply here.
