Borlaug Back-to-School 5K
Sunday, September 13
St. Paul Campus
Project Food Security, The University Running Club, and CFANS are hosting the annual Borlaug Back-to-School 5K this weekend. The event highlights the legacy of Norman Borlaug - CFANS alumnus, scientist, humanitarian and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, and the continuing challenges of food access and security. Come run or walk the course through the beautiful St. Paul campus. See registration, or, if you are not a runner but would like to participate, sign up to volunteer!
CFANS Picnic on the Plaza & Resource Fair

Coffman Union, Great Hall
Stop by this free event to learn about volunteer and internship opportunities available throughout the Twin Cities. More than 90 local organizations will be there with info. All students and the public welcome.
Celebrate Ag and Food Day at the U!
Saturday, September 19
Show your support for Minnesota agricultural and food industries while enjoying some Gopher football. Current students receive a discount rate of $10/ticket for the student section, and you can enter a drawing to win tickets to the game! Learn more.
CFANS Homecoming Events
Homecoming week: September 20-26
CFANS is hosting multiple events to celebrate Gopher Homecoming - join in the many fun activities planned:
- Grab dinner before the Homecoming Parade and concert at the 4th annual Beer & Brats Parade Party at the Bell Museum with FREE admission, brats, a cash bar, and premium parade viewing space from the Bell's lawn on University Avenue.
- Be a part of the CFANS float in the Homecoming Parade!

CFANS Mentor Program
Apply by: September 22
Connect with a professional in your field who can help you explore your major and career path! Through the Mentor Program, students will meet 1:1 with an alumni or professional in their field of interest, participate in a job-shadow, expand their networks, and get advice about internships and jobs. Program runs October-May. Learn more and apply.
Land O'Lakes Global Food Challenge and Internship
Apply by: September 25
open to sophomores
By 2050, the world may face serious agricultural threats and widespread hunger. The Land O'Lakes Global Food Challenge is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make a difference! At least one eligible sophomore student from the U of M will be chosen to participate from the pool of applicants, along with up-to 11 students from other universities, and will gain incredible experience and leadership skills outside the classroom, travel to Washington, D.C and Africa as part of an 11-week paid summer internship, solve real-world agricultural issues through “challenge” assignments and participate in a number of special events between October 2015 and October 2016. Applications require an essay and short video, and are being accepted until September 25. Learn more and apply.
CFANS Policy Engagement Program 2016
Apply by: October 1
Students interested in politics and issues related to agriculture, food, or natural resources have an exciting opportunity to connect with Minnesota policy leaders and gain an in-depth understanding of the methods and techniques used to influence our legislative process. Participants will attend meetings between October 2015 and April 2016, including a day at the state Capitol. Up to 15 CFANS students will be selected. See details and application form.
International Buddy Program (IBP) - Become a Mentor
Mentors are matched with new international undergraduate students to facilitate the transition to life in the United States and provide opportunities for cross-cultural communication and global experiences. See program and application details.
Scholarships with Upcoming Deadlines
$100 Conference Grants for CFANS Students
1st deadline: September 28
In 2015–16, CFANS will offer 25 $100 grants to pay for expenses incurred to attend regional, national, and international conferences for professional and/or academic development related to CFANS majors. Deadlines are the last Monday of each month. See guidelines and application.
$500 Minnesota Farm Bureau Foundation Scholarships
Apply by: September 30
Applicants must be juniors or seniors in a major related to agriculture, conservation, or forestry. Eligible applicants must be Farm Bureau members (individual or family membership). Learn more.
$5,000 Throlson American Bison Foundation Scholarship
Apply by: October 1
Scholarships totaling $5,000 are available for juniors, seniors or grad students studying bison or fields related to the bison industry. The scholarship is for the spring 2016 semester. Learn more.

–Sept 14: 100% refund deadline for canceling fall classes
–Sept 19: first fall payment due
–Sept 21: last day to add fall classes without college approval
–Sept 21: last day to cancel fall classes and not receive a "W" on transcript; last day to change grade basis (letter grade or pass-fail)
–Sept 21: 75% refund deadline for canceling fall classes
–Sept 28: 50% refund deadline for canceling fall classes
–Oct 5: 25% refund deadline for canceling fall classes
–Oct 5: last day to submit a 13-Credit Exemption Request via One Stop
