CFANS Student Thoughts Forum

The CFANS Student Board invites you to attend this informal forum for the chance to connect and share your ideas with deans and department heads on topics such as undergraduate curriculum, study spaces on campus, campus safety, and any issues that are important to you as a student. The Environmental Sciences, Policy and Management (ESPM) Student Association (ESA) is hosting its inaugural Eco-U event - a dynamic experience that explores the future of energy with a particular emphasis placed on energy in Minnesota. They have a diverse group of guest speakers lined up to provide an engaging and interactive experience, followed by refreshments and time for discussion. Please RSVP for this free event.
Government and Nonprofit Career Fair

Major Scare Workshop

12:45 p.m. - 5 p.m.
The Center for Academic Planning & Exploration (CAPE) is hosting the Major Scare workshop, an interactive afternoon designed to help you explore majors by learning how your interests and values apply to majors at the U. A $10 registration fee covers interest assessment and snacks (scholarships available upon request). Space is limited - sign up by October 20.

Tree Planting with CFANS
Saturday, October 24
9 a.m. planting; lunch at noon
Join CFANS, the ESPM Student Association, the UMN Forestry Club, and the city of Saint Paul for a volunteer tree planting event at the Trout Brook Nature Sanctuary. We'll plant trees in the morning, followed by a free picnic lunch. All are welcome! RSVP here.

Develop your public speaking and leadership skills and meet new friends while making a difference to prospective students. CFANS Ambassadors give campus tours to prospective students and their families, participate in special events, and serve as representatives of the college and the U. Learn to lead at LeaderShape 2016!

Camp Ihduhapi, Loretto, MN
LeaderShape is a six-day, off-campus leadership institute for students to interact and learn about leadership, personal potential, and goal setting. Twelve students from CFANS will have the opportunity to participate in the LeaderShape institute along with students from the College of Science and Engineering and the Carlson School of Management. All CFANS undergraduate students are encouraged to apply. The total cost per student is $75, which includes lodging and meals for six days and five nights. Donors cover the rest of the event cost.

Study Abroad Grant Application due October 28
Do you need financial help for your upcoming study abroad experience? Apply for the International Learning Grant, Go Global Grant and the NEW Diversity in Education Abroad Grant by October 28 for winter term, spring break and spring semester 2016 programs.

Scholarships with Upcoming Deadlines
Craig Sallstrom Memorial Scholarship - $1000
Apply by: November 1
This scholarship is for Minnesota residents studying an agriculture-related topic, with a preference given to students focused on crop production. For application and requirement info, see the MN Crop Production Retailers website.
MN State Cattlemen's Association Scholarships
Apply by: November 1
Several scholarships available for students pursuing an education related to agriculture with preference given to applicants with a focus on beef cattle and/ or with an individual or familial association with a cattlemen's association. Page down for links to the 2015 applications here.
Harry S. Truman Scholarship - $30,000
Information sessions: October 14 & 15
Apply by: November 9
The University of Minnesota will nominate up to four juniors of any major who are dedicated to careers in public service for Truman Scholarships, which award $30,000 for graduate study. Information sessions will be held on October 14 at 12 noon and October 15 at 3 p.m. in Northrop 106. Campus application deadline is November 9. Email email@example.com for more information.
Charlie Parnell Memorial Scholarship - $500
Apply by: November 15
Awarded by the Minnesota Erosion Control Association (MECA) to a student who wishes to pursue a degree in civil engineering or natural resources with an interest in erosion and sediment control or stormwater management. See more information.
Goldwater Scholarship - $7,500
Information sessions: October 21 & 22
Apply by: November 23
The University of Minnesota will nominate up to four sophomores or juniors interested in research careers and majoring in math, science, or engineering for nationally competitive Goldwater Scholarships ($7500 per year for undergraduate education). Information sessions will be held on October 21 at 3 p.m. and October 22 at 12 noon in Northrop 106. Campus application deadline is November 23. New Look Laser Tattoo Removal Semiannual Scholarship - $1000
Apply by: November 30
This merit-based scholarship is for students pursuing higher education with an emphasis in one of the following fields: nursing, medicine, natural or applied sciences, or engineering. Visit their website to find more information.
