Haunted House (Students Against Hunger fundraiser)

Students Against Hunger and the Wesley Foundation are offering the biggest haunted house ever seen at the U of M! Admission is $5. See details. All proceeds will fund a November meal-packaging session for Kids Against Hunger.
Free Ag Conference for Students: Next Step Program

All CFANS students interested in agriculture and ag policy are invited to this program that allows you to learn from practitioners and leaders. The Minnesota Farmers Union hosts this Next Step Program at its state conference. The event includes speakers, Q & A sessions, and networking. See first-hand how a statewide farm organization self-governs, develops, debates, and adopts policy positions on issues impacting family farmers, agriculture and rural life. Spaces fill quickly so register fast. Accepted students receive free entrance, food and overnight lodging in Minneapolis.

Grants for CFANS Student Groups
Does your student organization have an upcoming event? Apply for a grant from the CFANS Student Board. The Board helps fund club events, field trips, travel for professional development, and more. CFANS Student Chosen for Prestigious National Program
The Land O'Lakes company recently created a nationwide fellowship program called "Global Food Challenge: Emerging Leaders for Food Security". Its goal is to support emerging leaders who can address the urgent issue of producing enough food for the population. Students from multiple universities were selected, including Ariel Garsow, a CFANS student majoring in Food Science. Congrats and go CFANS!
CFANS Student Selected for SEED Award
A CFANS student has been awarded the 2014 Scholarly Excellence in Equity and Diversity (SEED) award. The SEED award honors students who demonstrate academic excellence and a commitment to equity, diversity and social justice, both inside and outside the classroom. Congratulations to CFANS recipient Lawrence Karongo, Applied Economics major.
Upcoming Scholarship Deadlines
Craig Sallstrom Memorial Scholarship, $1000
Deadline: November 1, 2014
This scholarship is for Minnesota residents studying an agriculture-related topic, with a preference given to students focused on crop production. For application and requirement info, see the MN Crop Production Retailers website.
Barry M. Goldwater Scholarships, $7500
Deadline: November 10, 2014
These are for undergraduates who intend to pursue graduate study and research careers in the natural sciences, math, or engineering. Applicants must be academically strong sophomores or juniors. For information, search for "Goldwater" on this U of M Scholarships page.
MN State Cattlemen's Association Scholarships
Deadline: November 17, 2014
The $500 Reid Mason Scholarship is for an Animal Science student focusing on beef cattle. The Dennis Bottem Scholarship is for a student pursuing Animal Science or Agronomy. Page down for links to the 2014 applications here.
