Tree Planting with CFANS

9 a.m. planting; free lunch at noon
This Saturday, join CFANS and the City of St. Paul for a volunteer planting event at the new Trout Brook Nature Sanctuary. We'll plant 65 trees in the morning, followed by a free picnic lunch. Students and everyone welcome! RSVP here.
The New Communication Climate: Media and the Environment

St. Paul Student Center Theater
This free lecture features a New York Times journalist discussing the media and the environment, and the unprecedented changes happening to both. The speaker is Andrew Revkin, writer for the Times' popular Dot Earth blog, which focuses on environmental sustainability.
CFANS Homecoming Events

St. Paul and Minneapolis campuses
The U of M's annual Homecoming game is Oct 18. CFANS will host multiple events for it, including a 5K Hunger Relief run/walk through the St. Paul campus (Oct 19), and CFANS festivities before and during the Homecoming parade (Oct 17). You can also sign up to walk with the CFANS parade float. Game day (Oct 18) includes a CFANS Tailgate and seating block. Fun stuff! See the full list of CFANS Homecoming activities.
CFANS Policy Engagement Program
Apply by: October 13, 2014
This is a special program to connect CFANS students with Minnesota policy leaders. Participants gain an in-depth understanding of the methods and techniques used to influence our legislative process. This is an exciting opportunity for students interested in politics and issues related to agriculture, food, or natural resources. You'll attend meetings between November 2014 and May 2015, including a day at the state Capitol. Up to 15 CFANS students will be selected. See details and application form.
CFANS and the Fight to Save Bees
Minnesota's largest newspaper ran a feature about the dangerous decline of bee populations. It spotlights CFANS professor Marla Spivak. Spivak is internationally recognized for her work with bees and is a winner of the MacArthur Foundation genuis grant. See the Star Tribune article.

CFANS International Learning Grants
Apply by: October 15, 2014
Get help paying for your international study program! Typical award amounts are $600 to $900 for short-term programs, $1200 for a semester, and $2400 for an academic year. Awards are based on application quality, relevance to your study in CFANS, and other requirements. Learn more.
