CFANS Dean Finalist: Dean Buhr Presentation
Monday, May 5, 2014

8:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Cargill Building

Interim Dean Brian Buhr was selected as sole finalist in the U of M's internal search for a permanent CFANS dean. This May 5 event is part of a public interview process and will include his presentation, "A Vision for the Future of CFANS". If you can't attend, a webstream will be available during the event.

Spring Plant Sale, Horticulture Club
May 8 and 9, 2014

9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Gortner Ave, St. Paul campus, big white tent

This CFANS student-club sale offers house plants, mushroom kits, trees, shrubs, annuals, perennials, and more. See details. (Note: May 8 and 9 are new dates, due to rainy weather.)


COLLEGE ANNOUNCEMENTS

CFANS Commencement Speaker and Siehl Prize Winner
Professor Mark Seely will be the CFANS undergraduate commencement speaker this year on May 16. Dr. Seely is an esteemed climatologist and Minnesota weather history expert. He's also the 2014 Siehl Prize Laureate for Excellence in Agriculture.

SERU: It's Not Too Late to Share Your Opinions about the U of M
Make your voice heard
If you haven't yet, there's still time to take the national SERU survey this semester. It allows you to give anonymous feedback about your U of M experiences. We take your answers very seriously and use them to improve campus and college services for undergraduates.


CFANS INTERNATIONAL STUDY: OPTIONS AND FUNDING

Plan Ahead for Your Study Abroad!
Summer break is a great time to make study-abroad plans for next school year. Short and longterm programs are available, and there are opportunities throughout the world. From Costa Rica to Thailand, you can earn credit toward a CFANS major while experiencing a new culture. See the CFANS Office of International Programs site for a list of destinations, course options, application deadlines, and more.

Funding: If you're worried about the cost of studying abroad, check out the Go Global Scholarship, with awards from $400 to $750. See other financial aid options here.

Fall Info Fair: Save the date for September 4, 2014, the day of the Global Engagement Fair, where CFANS will have information about all our study-abroad programs.

UPCOMING SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINES

$1000 Izaak Walton League of America Scholarship (MN Division)
apply by May 15, 2014
These $1000 scholarships are for students in environment, wildlife, or conservation programs. See application info (PDF). Applicants must be Minnesota residents.

$1000 Minnesota Pork Industry Scholarship
apply by May 15, 2014
Up to seven $1000 scholarships are available to students pursuing careers with an emphasis in pork. See Swine Industry Scholarships here.

$2000 National Poultry & Food Distributors Association Scholarships
apply by May 31, 2014
These are for upcoming juniors and seniors in the fields of poultry science, food science, agricultural economics/marketing, nutrition, and other areas of study related to the poultry industry. Learn more and apply here.
