  • Andrew Morrison
    Independent Contracting, University of Minnesota - B.S. Environmental Science, Policy and Management '14
    • During Andrew's undergraduate he completed environmental research in a variety of subjects including pesticides and honeybees, GIS and imagery analyses of polar regions and for the final year of his undergraduate, developing soil interpolation methods in southern Brazil. After graduating with a B.S. in Environmental Science Policy and Management he has pursued his creative and social skills for the past six months including, Membership and Outreach Manager of an international ecotourism organization and Marketing and Outreach Contractor for CFANS Global Programs.
  • Hannah Jastram
    - Communications Associate, University of Minnesota Extension - B.S. Nutrition & Dietetics '10
    • After completing the UMN - The Emily Program dietetic internship, Hannah started working with online communications with Health and Nutrition at Extension. She now makes the Center for Family Development look good online and trains staff to do the same.
  • Kevin Plante
    - Coordinator, MN Farmer Assistance Network, MN Department of Agriculture - B.S. Agricultural Education '86
    • Kevin Plante has served MN agriculture for over 30 years in a number of capacities, with a focus on education and resources for farmers and future agricultural professionals. He currently works for the Mn Department of Agriculture in the Finance and Budget Division as coordinator and farm business resource person for the Mn Farmer Assistance Network. Previous to this, he taught high school agriculture for 17 years and also worked with University of Minnesota as a Teacher Induction Program Coordinator and acting agriculture agent for the U of M Extension.
  • Jim Boerboom
    - Deputy Commissioner, MN Department of Agriculture -  B.S. Ag Education '73, M.A. Ag Education '77
    • Jim Boerboom has served as Deputy Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Agriculture since July 2007. Along with overseeing day-to-day operations, Mr. Boerboom supervises the agency’s Finance and Budget, Human Resources and Information Technology divisions. Mr. Boerboom's career has been dedicated to agriculture with a focus on helping farmers successfully adapt to change through innovative marketing practices and sound financial planning. He has held several positions at MDA, including: Assistant Commissioner, 1999-2007; MDA Agricultural Finance Division Director, 1995-1999; and Executive Director, Rural Finance Authority, 1995-1999. Mr. Boerboom also served as a State Representative from southwestern Minnesota from 1985-1986 and as Vice President for Valley Bank from 1990-1995. 
  • Jennefer Klennert
    - Principal Consultant, Foth Infrastructure & Environment LLC  - B.S. Environmental Science '95 
    • Jennefer Klennert has twenty plus years of experience on the collection, hauling, and disposal side of environmental services working for Waste Management and Advanced Disposal. She specialized in building long-term relationships with public sector clients. With Foth, Jennefer has continued her work in strategic solid waste management assisting public sector clients with contract negotiations and the future of waste processing.
  • Heather Nelson
    - Food Operations Manager, Sodexo - B.S. Nutrition '10
    • After graduating with a B.S. in Nutrition in 2010, Heather immediately started working for Sodexo as an evening Patient Services Supervisor responsible for overseeing dinner service for the patient room service dining program at Abbott Northwestern Hospital. Now four years later, she is in her fourth role in the department responsible for managing 150 employees and three other managers. In addition, Heather is half way through her Masters in Business Administration.
  • Pedro Urriola
    - Assistant Professor of Animal Science, University of Minnesota - M.S. Animal Science '06
    • Pedro E. Urriola graduated in 2003 from Universidad Central de Venezuela with a bachelor degree in Veterinary Medicine. Passion for animal nutrition and livestock farming drove Pedro to study a MS in Swine Nutrition at the University of Minnesota and a PhD in Swine Nutrition at the University of Illinois. The topics of Pedro’s M.S. and Ph.D. research were dedicated to the improvement of nutritional utilization of alternative feed ingredients in diets for growing pigs. This work resulted in 6 peer review publications, 19 proceedings in professional meetings, a book chapter, and multiple presentations for commodity groups, swine producers, and the general feed industry in the United States and Latin America. Currently, Pedro is a Research Assistant Professor at the Department of Animal Sciences of the University of Minnesota. They continue their work on nutritional evaluation of industrial co-products, but focusing in multiple aspects of energy, amino acids, phosphorus, and dietary fiber. Their research has being awarded recognition at the American Society of Animal Science. Pedro is also involved in projects on the management and control of Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus transmission in collaboration with the College of Veterinary Medicine. He continues participating in training and development of the feed industry in Argentina and Colombia.
  • Dennis Fallon
    - Vegetation Management Supervisor, Xcel Energy - B.S. Urban and Community Forestry with Minor in Forest Resources '96, M.S. Forestry '06
    • After graduating with a B.S. in Urban and Community Forestry, Dennis Fallon took a summer job with Northern States Power as a forester and never left. Serving as a forester, budget manager, work planner, project consultant and responsible for programmatic oversite in WI and MI. Dennis is a dynamic results oriented leader with strong communication skills; driven to creating innovative approaches that emphasize safety, customer satisfaction, process improvement, quality assurance and regulatory compliance. Demonstrated ability of effectively and efficiently managing contract resources and diverse projects with multimillion dollar budgets across a large geographic territory.
  • Amanda Durow
    - Credit Officer, CoBank - B.S. Animal Science '09
    • After graduating with a B.S. in Animal Science in 2009, Amanda Durow started her career at AgStar Financial Services as a Financial Services Officer where she worked with family farms in managing their finances and business risks. She has advanced in her career to working as a Credit Officer with CoBank supporting a diverse portfolio of farm cooperatives and agribusiness clients. In addition, Amanda is a 2014 graduate of the Carlson School Masters in Business Administration program.
  • Karl Thorson
    - Food Safety and Sanitation Manager, General Mills - B.S. Food Science '97
    • Karl Thorson is a corporate Quality and Regulatory Operations Food Safety and Sanitation Manager, leading Sanitation for General Mills. Karl received his Bachelors of Science degree in Food Science from the University of Minnesota. His experience includes 19 years with Pillsbury/General Mills in both plant and corporate roles in Quality, Operations, and Sanitation. He has worked with multiple product platforms including cereal, pizza, dough products, snacks and other dry, refrigerated and frozen products. His areas of focus include allergen and pathogen control, sanitary design, and sanitation training/education. He currently chairs the GMA (Grocery Manufacturers Association) Sanitation Working Group.
  • Luke Nichols
    - Graduate Studies in Landscape Architecture, UMN - B.S. Environmental Science, Policy and Management '12
    • Luke graduated with a B.S. in Environmental Sciences, Policy and Management in 2012. After which he served in a few communications, fundraising and management positions within the retail and non-profit environments. Luke is presently enrolled in the College of Design's Master's of Landscape Architecture program.
  • Daniel Kennedy
    - Global Key Account Director, DuPont - B.S. Nutrition and Dietetics '99
    • After graduating with a B.S. in Nutrition and Dietetics Dan went to work in Foods Science as a technologist at IHF Brands (now ConAgra) and Nuvex Ingredients (now Kerry). Dan went into sales with Nuvex and then for H & W Ingredients. Dan joined Solae (now DuPont) in 2007 and is currently a Global Key Account Director. Dan's responsibility is to build, validate and execute a strategy for a select customer with DuPont.
  • Kristan Maccaroni
    - Fisheries Specialist, MN Department of Natural Resources - B.S. Fisheries and Wildlife '09
    • Kristen began working for Minnesota DNR as a Fisheries Intern in 2010. Since then she have held several seasonal positions, as a Fisheries Laborer and Creel Clerk. She landed her permanent position as a Fisheries Specialist in 2012, and works in the Shakopee office. Kristen's work consists of fish spawning and rearing, conducting lake surveys and special surveys, stocking fish, analyzing fisheries data, reporting on population assessments, and interacting with the public at meetings and in the field. Kristen holds a Bachelor of Science in Fisheries in Wildlife, with an emphasis in Fisheries.
  • Marcus Zbinden
    - Environmental Specialist, Carver County Environment Services - M.A. Liberal Studies '00
    • Marcus has worked in the Solid Waste industry for the past 20 years. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point with a degree in Resource Management he began working as a Recycling Coordinator for Gallagher's Service, an independent hauler in the Twin Cities. In 1992 he took a position with Carver County as an Environmental Specialist where he continues to work with recycling, composting and other solid waste programs. In 1999, he received a Masters of Liberal Studies degree from the University of Minnesota and he is currently Vice Chair of the Minnesota Composting Council and Chair of the Recycling Association of Minnesota
  • Mike Bartusch
    - Wheat Merchandiser, The Scoular Company - B.S. Bio-Based Marketing and Management '09
    •  Mike is responsible for trading spring and durum wheat throughout the US, buying from farmers and elevators, and selling to flour mills, feed mills, and exporters.
  • Kevin Hennessy
    - Bioenergy Manager, Minnesota Department of Agriculture - M. S. Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering '09
    • After 16 years as a middle school math/science teacher in the Minneapolis district, Kevin Hennessy left his position to attend graduate school over the years of 2006-2009, receiving his M.S. in Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering in 2009. He went to work for the Agricultural Utilization Research Institute (AURI) in December, 2008 as an associate scientist at the Waseca coproduct development laboratory and remained there into December, 2011. At that time he left AURI to began his current position at the Minnesota Department of Agriculture as Bioenergy Manager. His current position is an interesting mix of science and policy - writing and analysis. He is responsible for all biofuel-related legislative reports to the legislature, administers the state's biofuel mandates, and also manages grant programs for nextgen bioenergy research and biofuel infrastructure storage and dispensing upgrades.
  • Monica Rauchwarter
    - Interpretive Naturalist, Three Rivers Park District
    • After completing a degrees in ecology and communication studies, Monica had the opportunity to gain experience at three different nature centers in the metro area. She now works at Richardson nature center, which is part of the three Rivers Park district. There, she facilitates natural history learning experiences for students and families and cares for the captive animals.
  • Bob Olsen
    - Agribusiness Sales Consultant, Self-employed - B.S. Agronomy '79
    • After graduating with a B.S. in Agronomy, Bob Olsen spent time working in sales of exhibit space and sponsorships for agricultural trade shows. He now works as a sales consultant, representing training programs from Mark Jewell (fellow alumnus of CFANS).

  • Michael Reed
    - Environmental Health Specialist - Ramsey County
    • Michael Reed has over 25 years of experience in environmental management, landfill operations, recycling, composting, project management, public involvement, policy development and legislative advocacy. He currently works for Ramsey County in their solid & hazardous waste compliance program in promoting effective strategies toward waste reduction, reuse, recycling and compliance with the regulated business community. He currently is a member of both the Recycling Association of MN (RAM) and the MN Solid Waste Association of North America Boards and serves as the RAM Board Chair.
