Sandra Mitchell Named Interim Director for CFANS Diversity and Inclusion
We are pleased to announce that Sandra Mitchell will serve as interim director for the Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) in CFANS, while we initiate an important search process for a new leader. This search will be conducted in close partnership with the University of Minnesota’s Office of Equity and Diversity. We expect to name a new director within the next few months.
Since Sandra joined CFANS in October 2017, she has lead our intercultural education programs and has played a key role in developing and fostering an inclusive and diverse environment in CFANS through her training and facilitation work with both faculty and staff.
Through her more than 20 years of experience, Sandra has built an impressive record in both leading and building effective diversity and inclusion programs. Before joining CFANS, Sandra served as the first Associate Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion at the University of North Dakota. Prior to that, she served as the first Chief Diversity Officer at Regis University in Denver, Colorado. A native of Missouri, she received both her masters and undergraduate degrees from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.
While this search is underway, Sandra will lead our efforts to achieve our stated ODI goal of “creating a workplace and classroom experience that promotes academic excellence through cultural diversity, and that is free of intolerance and coercive behaviors.”
We are excited to embark on our search process for a new director, as we firmly believe that a diverse and inclusive environment plays a critical role in educating leaders of tomorrow and helping us realize our important land grant mission. As a top priority, our new director will lead us in a collective and inclusive strategic planning process to chart our future goals as a CFANS community for diversity, inclusion, and equity.
Let us welcome and support Sandra as interim director.
