The milfoil weevil, pictured here, is a promising biocontrol agent for Eurasian watermilfoil. The weevil is native to North America but thrives on the invasive aquatic plant, boring through the stem and reducing its ability to survive. Research led by Ray Newman, professor in the Department of Fisheries, Wildlife and Conservation Biology, is ongoing to determine how to most effectively use the weevil for control efforts in Minnesota lakes.
