What is LeaderShape?

The LeaderShape Institute is an intensive 6-day leadership development experience. It is an institute, not a conference, which means that all participants experience the same programs, discussions, and activities at the same pace. To learn more about LeaderShape, Inc. visit the official website.

The University of Minnesota LeaderShape Institute is a partnership between the Carlson School of Management, College of Science and Engineering, & College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences.

The program content of the Institute reflects key leadership issues of vision, partnerships, integrity, and results. In addition, all participants leave the Institute with a "Breakthrough Blueprint." The Breakthrough Blueprint is a well-conceived vision and plan of action for the participants to implement in their organization, community, or workplace. As well as being an opportunity to develop skills to improve their organizations, participants praise the Institute as a time of great introspection. The week is structured so that participants first gain a deeper understanding of themselves and their own strengths and weaknesses, ultimately enabling them to be more effective leaders in their organizations.

Who should apply for The LeaderShape Institute?

Anyone interested in leadership should apply. We are looking for students from a variety of backgrounds, with a variety of leadership experiences, and at a variety of ages. LeaderShape is open to any student interested in producing extraordinary results in a community while also developing a commitment to lead with integrity. A total of 72 students from the 3 colleges will be invited to participate in the 2019 program. Approximately 530 Gophers have graduated from the program with a vast majority returning to campus energized and ready to make a difference within our campus community.

What happens if I'm accepted?

Applicants will be notified of their status within two weeks of the application deadline. Participants selected will attend a mandatory orientation in December to get more information and to meet fellow participants. Applicants MUST keep in mind that if selected, they are required to remain on site for the duration of the program. Also, LeaderShape is a substance-free program. All participants will be asked to adhere to that standard.

What is the cost?

Thanks to our generous sponsors, we are able to provide all lodging, food, and transportation for the week for all CFANS students accepted into the program. If accepted into the program, more details will be provided at an orientation session later this fall.
