One-Time-Only (OTO) Late Drop

Each student may, once during his or her undergraduate enrollment, withdraw from a course without college approval, and receive the transcript symbol “W”, after the deadline for withdrawal (tenth week of the semester) and at any time up to and including the last day of instruction for that course. A student may not withdraw after completing the final examination for a course.

Unlike the option to drop a class online before the semester deadline (10th week), the OTO Late Drop can be used only one time during each student’s academic career at the U of M. The OTO Late Drop cannot be used during or after finals week. Students who use their OTO Late Drop still receive a “W” grade on their transcript and pay for the class.

In order to request the OTO Late Drop, CFANS students must either submit a signed/completed academic policy petition form directly (in-person) to the CFANS Advising Center in Room 130 Coffey Hall or scan and send the signed/complete academic policy petition form via email (using their UM email address and send to cfansadv@umn.edu) no later than 4 pm on the last day of instruction of the semester. Again, the OTO Late Drop cannot be used during or after finals week.

NOTE: International students must also discuss any course cancellations with the International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) office prior to using their One-Time-Only Late Drop
