Jim Boersma ('74) receives 2018 Renville County Distinguished Service Award

Congratulations to Jim Boersma, recipient of the 2018 Renville County Distinguished Service Award.

Boersma grew up on a dairy farm south of Cannon Falls, Minnesota, and graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1974 with a B.S. in Agronomy. After graduation he began working in the production department at Trojan Seed Company and became an agronomist for part of Minnesota and South Dakota. It was here that Boersma met his wife, Jayne, who worked in the customer service department. They were married in October 1976 and have two sons.

In 1982 Boersma moved to a job in Olivia, Minnesota at Pioneer Hybrid International—later to become Dupont-Pioneer—as a sales agronomist. For the next 34 years he covered Minnesota, eastern South Dakota, and part of western Wisconsin before retiring in 2015.

Both during and after his career, Boersma has been active in the Olivia community. He is on the Renville County Board of Variance and Appeals, sings in the Woodbury chorus, is a member of the Knights of Columbus, and is very active in St. Aloysius Catholic Church as a lector, finance councilmember, choir participant, acolyte, and usher. He is also a board member of ProAg of Renville County. In his spare time, Boersma enjoys restoring antique cars and tractors, golfing, gardening, woodworking, and traveling.
