Frances Homans will lead Applied Economics/Ag Education
Frances Homans has accepted the position of department head for Applied Economics and the division of Agricultural Education in CFANS, effective immediately. In that position she will provide leadership and administrative oversight to a department that represents the broader vision of the college and continues to maintain strength in traditional areas of agricultural economics while expanding to new areas of environmental and resource economics; food systems; growth, development and trade; and public sector economics. She has been interim head of Applied Economics and Agricultural Education since August 2013 and a faculty member in applied economics since 1993. She came to Minnesota from the University of California, Davis where she earned graduate degrees in agricultural economics. Her research expertise is in natural resource economics with applications to regulated fisheries, conservation, and invasive species management. She's been recognized for excellence in undergraduate teaching and chaired the college's Undergraduate Policy and Review Committee during unprecedented change in the college's undergraduate curriculum.
