Dan Gallaher named interim department head
Daniel Gallaher, professor in the Department of Food Science and Nutrition, will become interim head of the department, effective July 1, 2016. Francisco Diez-Gonzalez is stepping down to accept a position at the University of Georgia at the end of this fiscal year. Professor Gallaher will be the interim head until the completion of a national search, which is currently underway.
Prior to joining the department of Food Science and Nutrition in 1988, Gallaher held a faculty position at North Dakota State University. He earned M.S. and PhD. degrees in nutritional science while gaining experience in research at the University of California, Davis. His research program involves dietary influences on colon cancer, as well as the health effects of dietary fiber. He has been awarded for his many achievements in teaching excellence. He also served as an associate dean in the College of Human Ecology.
In announcing Gallaher's appointment, CFANS dean Brian Buhr said "I want to thank Francisco for his service and leadership. He initiated a strategic planning process to renew a vision and identify priorities for department programs and scholarship. He also worked to enhance the impact of the department's advisory council. Please join me in congratulating Dan and welcoming him to this new leadership role."
