Faculty ROC Tour

The College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences would like to invite faculty and administrators on a 2-day tour to visit some of the college’s outstate research and outreach centers (ROCs), as well as Minnesota industries in agriculture. 

Research and outreach centers

The trip will offer you the opportunity to:

  • Learn more about the work being done at our ROCs and the ROC resources available to faculty researchers.
  • Gain understanding of agricultural resource industries in Minnesota and the challenges and opportunities associated with these industries.
  • Engage and collaborate with fellow faculty and researchers.

Trip Details

The trip begins at 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 13 where you will board a comfortable coach bus on St. Paul campus. The tour will take you to the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, the Southern ROC in Waseca and the West Central ROC in Morris. Industry stops and tours along the way are included. The bus will return to St. Paul campus on Thursday, July 14 at 5:30 p.m.

Cost

CFANS is covering the cost for CFANS faculty and administrators who register to attend. Faculty from CVM and CBS are welcome to register as well; the cost is $300/person and includes all travel expenses including bus transportation, hotel stay and meals.

Registration

The tour is open to all faculty and administrators in CFANS, CVM and CBS. Priority registration is reserved for those new to their positions in the last 3 years. Capacity is limited to 28 with 20 spots reserved for CFANS and 8 spots reserved for CVM or CBS, through June 13. After June 13, priority registration ends and any remaining spots will be opened up to others interested in attending.

Registration deadline is Wednesday, June 22.

Windshield tour of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum (Guide on bus)
Visit vegetable processing plant in Owatonna
Arrive at Southern ROC for tours and discussions

11:30 p.m.

Lunch at SROC

12:00 p.m.

Tours of SROC including:
    • overview of center grounds
    • nematology
    • dairy calves
    • swine
    • agronomy, LTARN and soils (cropping systems)
    • horticulture

2:00 p.m.

Depart SROC for West Central ROC

6:00 p.m.

Arrive WCROC for barbeque in the Horticulture Garden

8:00 p.m.
