Events and Programs

Alumni and CFANS Events

The college hosts many lectures, seminars and networking and social events each year. Find out what’s coming up that should be on your calendar.

Classes Without Quizzes

Classes Without Quizzes is an annual half-day learning opportunity to welcome back alumni and help community members better understand how our work affects Minnesotans’ daily lives. The program includes a keynote address and two breakout sessions of your choice. Topics cover a variety of subjects like weather, wind energy, economics, strawberries, moose and food security. The corresponding Kids' Edition offers fun, hands-on learning opportunities for children in grades K through 6.

Global Learning Adventures

Global Learning Adventures is an exciting new program that takes CFANS alumni around the world to give them a taste of what a student learning abroad experience is like. The first trip, in October 2013, focused on Italian Food Culture and Sustainability, featuring opportunities to learn about organic winemaking, traditional farming methods, modern enology and land management practices, as well as spectacular views of the Mediterranean coast. Find out where we are going this year!

Golf Scramble for Scholarships

Join us this summer for the annual Golf Scramble for Scholarships at the University of Minnesota Les Bolstad Golf Course. Activities include team photos with Goldy, contests, a silent auction, a BBQ lunch, awards and prizes and, of course, golf. This fun-filled event raises needed scholarships for CFANS students.

Mentor Program

The Mentor Program connects current CFANS students with alumni and industry leaders to explore their career interests and learn how businesses and organizations work. You can help a student learn about your career and support the development of future leaders in your industry while refining your coaching and mentoring skills.

Minnesota Royal

Minnesota Royal is an almost century-old tradition on the St. Paul campus where student groups participate in good-natured contests and competitions, like animal calling, the Ag Olympics and a talent show. Everyone’s welcome to join in the week of student-run fun!

Norman Borlaug Science Achievement Award

Encourage high school juniors to continue to pursue their passion for science by nominating them for the Norman Borlaug Science Achievement Award. In addition to being recognized for excellence in science, the recipients receive a carefully chosen book, as well as the possibility of a scholarship, should they attend CFANS.
