Application Process: Dean's Engaged Leaders Program
All incoming first-year CFANS students at the University of Minnesota are encouraged to apply for the Dean's Engaged Leaders Program (DELP). You may submit your application by email, snail mail, or online. If you apply via snail mail or email, be sure to include your name, email address, home address, phone number, and intended major on the top of your essay. If you speak or have studied a foreign language for more than 2 years, please indicate this as well. Complete application instructions are below.
Application Deadline Extended: For the Fall 2016 DELP program, applications are being accepted until the program is full. Apply soon! When the program fills, we will state that on this web page.
There are 3 steps to the application process:
- Write an essay (no more than 500 words) responding to the following three questions: (a) What skills do you believe are important to develop in order to be an effective citizen and leader as the United States becomes more diverse? (b) Why do you want to participate in the Dean's Engaged Leaders Program? (c) What do you feel you can contribute to this experience?
- If you have experiences you believe are relevant to the Dean's Engaged Leaders Program, please submit a brief summary of these activities. Possible examples of such experiences may include (but are not limited to) volunteer and service activities, leadership roles, international experiences, and involvement in cultural or diversity groups.*
*Such experiences are not required for participation, and all interested students should apply regardless if they've had previous experience in such areas.
- Complete and submit your DELP application—which includes essay, summary of relevant experiences (if applicable), and indication of your housing application status. Applications can be mailed, emailed, faxed, or completed online.
