CFANS leadership participates in CARET meetings

During March 4-6, University of Minnesota leadership took part in the Council for Agricultural Research, Extension, and Teaching (CARET) meetings in Washington, D.C. (From left) Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Programs Greg Cuomo connected with U.S. Representative for Minnesota's 6th District Tom Emmer, joined here with MAES Legislative Delegate Patrick Duncanson '83. Cuomo and Duncanson also visited with Emmer's agriculture legislative assistant Nick Lunneborg and agriculture legislative assistants from the offices of Representatives Tim Walz,  Rick Nolan, and Jason Lewis, and Senators Tina Smith and Amy Klobuchar.

Discussions focused on the importance of capacity funding in enabling us to continue to provide impact through the research and Extension missions of land-grant universities. In addition, they talked about specific examples of how research and Extension benefit the state of Minnesota through federal funding. Also attending CARET and visiting with various legislators were Extension representatives Dean Bev Durgan, Sarah Greening, Tom Rothman, Brent Hales, and David Benson.
