Sustainability Film Series: Catching the Sun

Catching the Sun

Through the stories of workers and entrepreneurs in the U.S. and China, Catching the Sun captures the global race to lead the clean energy future. Over the course of a solar jobs training program, Catching the Sun follows the hope and heartbreak of unemployed American workers seeking jobs in the solar industry. With countries like China investing in innovative technologies and capitalizing on this trillion-dollar opportunity, Catching the Sun tells the story of the global energy transition from the perspective of workers and entrepreneurs building solutions to income inequality and climate change with their own hands.

Star Parties with MIfA

March 3 - Cassini Mission to Saturn

Explore the sky with astronomers from the Bell and the Minnesota Institute for Astrophysics. Our FREE telescope observing nights take place every month (weather permitting). Star Parties are very informal and family-friendly, and you can arrive and leave at any time.

Each evening will start with a special science presentation by MIfA graduate students in the Bell Museum's Auditorium. After the talk, the party will continue with telescope observing in the courtyard. We provide the telescopes and will guide you through observations of the same celestial objects that have inspired sky-gazers throughout history!

Big Ten Ag Alumni Reception 2017

In the spirit of institutional cooperation, the Big Ten schools with agricultural programs are again gathering our alumni and friends in the Washington, D.C., area for a special event at the National Press Club. Now in its seventh year, the reception has been a great success with alumni and friends networking across institutions and enjoying one another's company. Enjoy the fellowship of alumni and friends from the colleges of agricultural sciences and natural resources representing the Big Ten. Reconnect with college deans, administrators, faculty, and staff from your alma mater.

Outwintering Field Day

Join us for dairy tours and lunch during our Outwintering Field Day!  Outwintering Field Day will include tours of the out-wintered dairy herd at the WCROC, organic milking cows, and breeding and young stock living in three different pasture areas.  Animal well-being and pasture use will also be discussed.  Bring your own stories to share. Dress appropriately for the weather - we will be outside. Lunch provided.  No pre-registration required; register at the door.  Admission is free.

Vegetable Gardening 301

Take your vegetable gardening skills to the next level with our in-depth 301 vegetable growing strategies class.  This is the third class in the Vegetable Gardening series presented at Come Grow with Us.  Participation in 101 and 201 not required for attendance at the 301 class.

Join Steve Poppe, Sr. Horticulturist at the WCROC for recommendations to grow quality vegetables.  Class will cover:

  • Cultural practices that support the development of healthy, vigorous root systems
  • How to successfully grow tomatoes, onions, carrots, peas, and melons
  • Growing fall crops
  • Maximize your space with succession planting
