- CFANS is proud to welcome our newest alumni!
Congratulations to all of the undergraduate and graduate students who celebrated commencement this spring. The 1st annual CFANS Graduate Commencement ceremony was held April 24 at Northrop Auditorium with 51 Masters' and 35 Ph.D. students in attendance. The CFANS Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony was also held at Northrop on May 15, with approximately 375 graduating seniors walking.2015 undergraduate commencement

All graduates were welcomed to the 26,000-person strong CFANS alumni network with the gift of a balsam fir seedling and a "U of M alumni" lapel pin. New graduates also receive a complimentary membership to the University of Minnesota Alumni Association for 1-year after graduation, and access to services from Career & Internship Services for 2 years after graduation. - The Department of Food Science and Nutrition Advisory Council hosted their Spring Showcase event on May 13. Over 120 attendees from the U and industry enjoyed a unique networking opportunity, ice cream made by the department, a gluten round table discussion, and a keynote speech by alumnus Jeff Stamp (our Alumni Spotlight this month!). U of M Food Science and Nutrition Club  - The Food Science and Nutrition Club (photo, left) was named a finalist for the the Institute of Food Technologists Student Association (IFTSA) Chapter of the Year. The award honors one university student organization for exceptional participation, strong leadership, community outreach and providing opportunities that utilize the talents of all their members. The winner will be announced at the IFTSA closing ceremonies as part of the IFT Annual Meeting on July 13 in Chicago. Minnesota’s Food Science and Nutrition Club planned a wide array of speakers and activities incluing volunteering, fundraising, industry tours, social activities and national and local IFT engagement. During the course of the year, the group implemented 11 new events, 5 expanded events, and developed "Snack M's," a corn-based snack food, to provide a new revenue source. Read more!
