Star Parties with Minnesota Institute for Astrophysics
Explore the sky with astronomers from the Bell and the Minnesota Institute for Astrophysics. Our free telescope observing nights take place every month (weather permitting). Star Parties are very informal and family-friendly, and you can arrive and leave at any time.
Each evening will start with a special science presentation by MIfA graduate students in the Bell Museum's Auditorium. After the talk, the party will continue with telescope observing in the courtyard. We provide the telescopes and will guide you through observations of the same celestial objects that have inspired sky-gazers throughout history!

Also, enjoy live music in the museum from our special guest Har Mar Superstar!
Past Bell Museum resident artists will return to exhibit works created during their residencies. Explore the tiny worlds in macrophotography by Sreekishen Nair, bird collision portraiture by Miranda Brandon, preserving memory photos by Jeff Millikan, and selections from a crowdsourced photo project by Areca Roe. Experience a motion-sensing interactive by Minneapolis Art on Wheels, as well as a contemporary movement performance by Carl Flink featuring members of the Black Label Movement dance theater.
Latin American cuisine from Cafe Racer and a cash bar will be on site along with trivia, prizes, and after hours access to all exhibits including View From a Canoe: Paintings and Illustrations by Don Luce!
Tickets: $20 general, $15 members, UMN staff/students.
Thanks to our sponsors. The Bell Social is a celebration of our Resident Artist Research Project; both made possible thanks to generous support from the McKnight Foundation.
Minnesota artists: The deadline for the 2017/2018 artist residencies has been extended to November 28, 2016! Residencies are open to artists of all kinds including writers, painters, storytellers, dancers, designers, map-makers, musicians, and more. Work with University of Minnesota experts to explore science through your art.
