- William Dayton has been appointed head of the Department of Animal Science. Dayton has been a faculty member since 1975, and specializes in research on animal grown biology. Read more.

- Greg Cuomo has been named associate dean for research and graduate programs in CFANS, effective December 15. He'll oversee the college's research portfolio and will be deputy director of the Minnesota Agricultural Experiment Station. Cuomo will retain his role as division head of the Research and Outreach Center (ROC) system and will continue to provide oversight for facilities and safety in the near-term. He will also provide oversight to graduate programs, working closely with Mike White, associate dean for academic programs and faculty affairs, on accreditation and other academic related programs and initiatives. - UMN Collegiate Dairy Products Evaluation Contest team wins first trophy in 20 years!
The national Collegiate Dairy Products Evaluation Contest was held November 8 at Northern Illinois University's Conference Center in Hoffman Estates, IL. The U of M undergraduate team members (Bria Abeles-Allison, Claire Burrington, and Zen Zi Wong ) took 1st place in Milk out of 12 teams; a 1st place win has not occurred at nationals for the U of M since 1994. The team was also 2nd in yogurt and 4th overall. Liz Reid and Lu Yu competed in the graduate category and Liz came in 1st place out of 8 students! She won Yogurt, Cheddar and Cottage Cheese and was 3rd in ice cream. Lu came in 2nd in Cheddar and 3rd in Yogurt. Congratulations to all team members!
