Each year, the CFANS Mentor Program hosts a variety of events for mentors and mentees. From casual socials to networking workshops, these gatherings provide mentor-mentee matches with the opportunity to meet program participants and share professional insights.

UMN FWCB Wet Laboratory & Ichthyology Collection, Bell Museum of Natural History

February 5 | 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. | On campus

Wet Lab: Discover UMN research currently underway on Minnesota's native mussels, as well as key life history traits they need to complete their life cycle. You’ll have the opportunity to learn about careers in fisheries management and feed native MN fish!

Ichthyology CollectionLearn about scientific collections and why they are valuable to researchers. The ichthyology (fish) collection at the Bell Museum of Natural History dates to the 19th century and contains over 41,000 cataloged lots. This extensive collection includes specimens from the United States and abroad. Take advantage of this unique opportunity– the collections are normally closed to the general public.

U of M Meat Lab

Come for a behind the scenes tour of the Meat LabThis on-campus meat processing facility supports extension, research, and teaching, and also sells their products right here on the St. Paul Campus. The tour will end in the Dairy and Meat Salesroom, so bring a little money if you want to take a treat home with you!

Mighty Axe Hops

Mighty Axe Hops is Minnesota’s largest hops farm. It’s owned and operated by U of M graduate, Eric Sannerud. During this site visit, you’ll have the opportunity to tour the hop farm and harvest facilities.

City of Plymouth, Maintenance Facility

Explore the hub of all maintenance in Plymouth, from Parks and Forestry to Utilities and Streets. You’ll have the opportunity to experience the daily workings of Public Works, as well as tour park facilities and projects.

Bee Lab, University of Minnesota

Experience the University of Minnesota’s Bee Research Facility, fondly known as "the Bee Lab". The Bee Lab investigates a diverse range of questions in the basic and applied sciences, as well as manages honeybee colonies and bee product production. Their state of the art laboratory was constructed in 2016. On this tour, you’ll have the opportunity to discuss research conducted at the facility and tour lab spaces.

Bellisio Foods Innovation Centre

Come visit the Bellisio Foods Innovation Centre facility located in downtown Minneapolis! Bellisio Foods is the 3rd largest frozen entrée manufacturer in the US producing meals for these recognizable brands: Michelina's, Boston Market, Atkins, EatingWell, Chili's, So Right and Authentic Asia. You’ll be able to see how the Bellisio R&D Team works alongside our Food Safety Quality Team to create prototype frozen offerings from Concept to Commercialization at our Research & Development facility.  Your visit will include a tour, a lunch meeting with our team members, and conclude with a hands-on competition & presentation of a quick innovation collaboration with our cross-functional teams!

Networking Night 
March 5 | 4:30 - 7:30 p.m. | North Star Ballroom, St. Paul Student Center

Join CFANS for a fun night of networking with students, alumni, and professionals. Mentees will have the opportunity to meet a variety of alumni & professionals who share their career interests and mentors will be able to share their professional insights with current students. Event details.
