Attend the 15th Annual Classes Without Quizzes on Saturday, April 2, 2016!
The 2016 program will feature the latest research from CFANS scientists, including keynote speaker Jay Bell, a professor in the Department of Soil, Water and Climate who will be speaking on the topic of "The 3 Ms of Soils: Minnesota, the Moon and Mars". Breakout sessions will include a wide variety of topics: grocers in rural Minnesota, cows and technology, recreation on the North Shore, midwestern hops, and more.
Our Kids' Edition program will provide youth K-6 the opportunity to explore topics like the lives of bees, backyard bugs, and raptors.
About Classes Without Quizzes
This annual half-day learning event was created in 2002 to showcase the ways that research by CFANS faculty affects the daily lives of Minnesotans. This is a fun, informal outreach event that appeals to many audiences: alumni, general public, current and prospective college students, families, youth K-6 (Kids' Edition) - anyone who is curious about the latest research coming out of CFANS!

All participants will attend a keynote session, and then select two breakout sessions of his/ her choice.
Kids' Edition (grades K - 6):
Youth will attend their own specially designed activity sessions concurrent with the standard program keynote and breakout sessions. Their program consists of hands-on, fun educational and recreational activities led by youth educators from University Youth & Community Programs. Participants are divided into age-appropriate groups for their activities.
Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with university departments and organizations at display tables in the lobby area. Organizations include Master Gardeners & Master Naturalists, the University of Minnesota Bookstore, CFANS Academic Departments, the Plant Disease Clinic, the Higher Education Consortium for Urban Affairs, and more!

New for 2016!
There is an opportunity for high school students to become Classes Without Quizzes Scholars and earn a scholarship to attend the event and reap many educational benefits. They will participate in the keynote address, the first breakout session, a hands-on plant pathology lab experience and an optional greenhouse tour. CWQ Scholars and a guest (parent/guardian/teacher) will also be invited back to campus in late spring for a visit to a lab/unit of their choice, a campus tour and lunch with current students and CFANS Dean Brian Buhr.
