Award Criteria Summaries

These awards are conferred to individuals who share the value of CFANS and the purposes of the CFANS Alumni Society within his or her community and beyond. The purpose of the CFANS Alumni Society is to connect students, alumni and friends of CFANS and the University of Minnesota and develop interest in, and support for, the betterment of the of the college, the University of Minnesota, and University of Minnesota Alumni Association. In particular, the Society's efforts shall foster society membership, student recruitment, enhancement of the student experience, and communication with alumni, students, faculty, and the community at large.

Eligibility:
Currently serving elected members of the Alumni Society Board of Directors are not eligible for the following awards. Past board members, and individuals currently serving in Ex Officio capacity  (e.g. student representatives) are eligible.

Nominations:
All of the following awards use the same nomination form. Nominations due Monday, February 1, 2016.

Distinguished Alumni Award

  1. Is a graduate of CFANS or a predecessor college (COAFES, CNR, CHE)
  2. Has contributed significantly to his/her profession , industry and/ or greater community
  3. Has held office or a significant leadership position in professional or civic organizations
  4. Has demonstrated commitment to building a greater CFANS community
  5. Is recognized as an authority in his/ her field via any or all of the following: published research, journal articles, patents, testimony and/ or speeches in a public forum, etc.

Alumni Service Award

  1. Is a graduate of CFANS or a predecessor college (COAFES, CNR, CHE)
  2. Contributes to the efforts of CFANS and/ or the CFANS Alumni Society
  3. Is an exceptional volunteer and/or donor to CFANS
  4. Has demonstrated commitment to building a greater CFANS community

Alumni Advocacy Award

  1. Is a graduate of CFANS or a predecessor college (COAFES, CNR, CHE)
  2. Advocates for CFANS or the CFANS Alumni Society (examples: student recruitment, financial contribution, legislative outreach, etc.)
  3. Communicates the importance/ impact of CFANS and/ or the CFANS Alumni Society
  4. Promotes college events and/ or programs with decision makers and/ or in recruiting prospective students

     
Lifetime Achievement Award

  1. This award may recognize an individual posthumously.
  2. Is a graduate of CFANS or a predecessor college (COAFES, CNR, CHE)
  3. Has made outstanding contributions to CFANS and/ or to the food, agriculture and/or natural resources industries over the course of his/ her lifetime
  4. Is recognized by his/her peers as a leader in the CFANS community and beyond

Distinguished Faculty Award

  1. Has made outstanding contributions to past or present students of CFANS or the CFANS Alumni Society
  2. Current CFANS faculty with five+ years of service
  3. Engages and supports alumni and fosters on-going connections with the college
  4. Provides an excellent example to (past & present) students through words and actions
  5. Is thought of highly by college alumni, constituents and peers

     
Distinguished Staff Award

  1. Has made outstanding contributions to CFANS or the CFANS Alumni Society
  2. Has served on the University of Minnesota staff for at least five years
  3. Goes above and beyond in support of students, alumni, faculty and staff and/or constituents
  4. Is thought of highly by college alumni, constituents and peers

Student Leadership Award

  1. Each year, one award will be given to an undergraduate student, and one award to a graduate student.
  2. Has completed one full year of studies at CFANS
  3. Holds a significant leadership position on campus in a recognized student organization, club sport, athletic team, house community or student employment position
  4. Demonstrates the ability to prepare, motivate and impact other student leaders
  5. Volunteers his/ her services to help create a stronger campus community
  6. Demonstrates committment to academic achievement

Outstanding Friend Award

  1. Is not a graduate of CFANS
  2. Contributes to the efforts of CFANS and/ or the CFANS Alumni Society
  3. Is an exceptional volunteer and/or donor to CFANS
  4. Has demonstrated commitment to building a greater CFANS community
