CFANS Scholarships for Transfer Students
Transfer applicants are those who apply to the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences with at least 26 semester credits (earned after graduation from high school). These credits may be from another institution of higher education, or from another college within the University of Minnesota system.
How do I apply for a CFANS scholarship?
Scholarships are awarded based on your admission application to CFANS. (You do not need to fill out a separate form for scholarships.) The vast majority of transfer-student scholarships are awarded to those who apply during spring semester and who will begin their CFANS studies the following fall.
The CFANS Scholarship Committee will use the admissions application to make decisions, so you are encouraged to complete the application in as much detail as possible – including a career goal statement. Priority consideration for scholarships is given to students who submit their admission application by the February 1 priority application deadline for Fall admission, or by the October 1 priority application deadline for Spring admission. Those who apply after that date will be considered on a funds-available basis. For more information about the admissions process, call 1-800-752-1000 or visit the U of M Office of Admissions.
How are scholarship recipients selected?
The CFANS Scholarship Committee selects recipients based on criteria established by the sponsors of each scholarship. Many scholarships are awarded on the basis of scholastic achievement, consistency of academic record, and extracurricular or leadership activities. There is no need to apply for specific scholarships. The committee will screen transfer-student applications and make decisions based on the information in the application.
How will I be notified that I have received a scholarship?
Admitted students awarded a scholarship will receive notification from CFANS within two months of the admissions decision. If you have also applied for financial aid (completed the FAFSA), you will receive a second notice that outlines your complete financial aid package including grants, scholarships, loans, expected parental contribution, etc.
If I don't receive a scholarship as an incoming transfer student, are there other funding opportunities?
Each spring, CFANS awards scholarships to current students that can be used the subsequent academic year. You would be eligible to apply for these scholarships each year, assuming you are a full-time CFANS student in good academic standing.
