Freshman Orientation

All first-year students new to the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS) are required to attend a 2-day overnight Orientation session. Orientation sessions are held in June and July.

Class of 2021 with M logoStudents who have paid their confirmation fee receive an email in March (not earlier) with specific Orientation dates, registration instructions, and other details. NOTE: Whenever you pay your fee, it may take up to 2 weeks for the fee to be processed. After it's processed, we'll email you with Orientation information.

The goal of this 2-day Orientation session is to give incoming students the opportunity to:

  • learn about CFANS and U of M programs and services
  • register for courses, with the assistance of an adviser
  • meet other first-year students
