Deciding where you want to attend college is never an easy decision. There are a lot of factors that sway your decision, from cost, location and admission rate to college resources and post-graduation opportunities. Here at the College of Food, Agriculture and Natural Resource Sciences, better known as CFANS, we try to make your decision as easy as possible. We know that this is a challenging time and that not everyone is going to apply to our college and that’s ok. What’s most important is that students find the perfect fit for them. Although, we must say that we hope you put CFANS at the top of your list!

Opportunities

CFANS offers students a small, friendly campus setting while being a part of an internationally ranked university. Located in a thriving metropolitan area students have access to one of the best job markets in the nation. CFANS also boast one of the most affordable values of any Big Ten school. What that value gets you includes hands on learning using new innovative technology currently being used by professionals in their respected fields. You’ll also be taught by world renowned professors who are conducting groundbreaking research to change the world. Just look at our most distinguished alumnus Norman Borlaug who developed a drought resistant wheat variety that is credited with saving a billion lives from hunger.

Application Information and Deadlines Johnston Hall

We would love to see you become a part of our distinguished college. If you are driven to discover then we courage you to apply to CFANS through the U of M's Office of Admissions. If you need help or have any questions you can contact them or the freshman admissions counselor. When you submit your application by our first or second deadline, you'll automatically be considered for scholarships and our University Honors Program.

Land-Grant Legacy Scholars

The Land-Grant Legacy Scholars Program is a student success and scholarship program that supports students from Greater Minnesota (outside of the seven-county metro area). Students from Greater Minnesota who are admitted to CFANS and selected for admission to the President’s Emerging Scholars Program are automatically considered for admission to the Land-Grant Legacy Scholars Program. The Land-Grant Legacy Scholarship provides students targeted support and programming, as well as $5,000 each year for four years.

Visit CFANS

We encourage all prospective students to visit us on campus! Nestled on the beautiful St. Paul campus, CFANS is only three miles from our Minneapolis campus. It features vibrant open green spaces along with unique and historical architecture. The St. Paul campus has its own residential hall as well as its own gymnasium among many other amenities. Worried about the commute between campuses? Don't worry a campus connector shuttle bus comes every five minutes to take you where you want to go in only a few minutes. Visits are scheduled on Mondays and Fridays. Tour campus, gather information, and meet with a professor or adviser.

Orientation

All incoming CFANS freshmen attend a two-day orientation session in June or July. You'll learn more about the college and U of M services, register for classes, and meet other students.

International Undergraduate Students

The University of Minnesota is a magnet for students from all over the world.
