Maggie Wallenta

Education Abroad Program Director

Maggie is responsible for advancing international education as a central part of the undergraduate educational experience. She enjoys managing and developing study abroad programs, assisting faculty with enhancing students' global perspectives and competencies, and integrating international students into the College. Maggie earned her M.A. in Educational Policy and Administration from the University of Minnesota. Vanessa Walton

Education Abroad Program Director

Vanessa has a joint position in Education Abroad, working two days a week at the CFANS Office of International Programs and three days at the Learning Abroad Center.  Vanessa has over 10 years of experience working in international education and a Master's in Heritage Conservation & Preservation from the University of Minnesota- Twin Cities. She enjoys managing and developing study abroad programs, assisting faculty to create their own study abroad programs, connecting with onsite staff, and working to make learning abroad more accessible to students from underrepresented backgrounds. Vanessa studied abroad 4 times during her undergraduate studies and since then has traveled to 6 continents and 19 countries and counting. 

Vanessa is available for program selection advising or to answer your learning abroad questions during the St. Paul campus drop-in advising hours, every Wednesday from 2 - 4 p.m. during Fall and Spring semester in 130 Coffey Hall (map).

Barb Thees

Communications and International Programs Specialist

Barb is responsible for promoting CFANS study abroad opportunities to students, faculty, and staff, and supports the programming work of the Office for International Programs.  She has spent time studying, volunteering, and working abroad in both Latin America and Spain, and is always looking for her next travel adventure. As her experiences studying and living abroad have had a lasting impact on her career trajectory, she is passionate about encouraging students to participate in an international experience, and helping them select the program that best fits their educational goals. Contact Barb regarding opportunities to promote study abroad, including classroom or club visits, as well as the CFANS Office of International Programs' participation in on-campus events.

Barb is the program leader for the May session 2019 France: from Farm to Fork: Sustainable Food Systems program.
