Program Description
Nutrition explores how nutrients, and the foods from which they are derived, aid the body in growth and development and in maintaining health and wellness.  With growing national and international concern for how foods and nutrition affect human health, wellness, and occurrence of disease, the field of nutrition is expanding. As a student in our program, you can choose one of two nutrition options to focus your studies around:

  • Nutrition (Didactic Program in Dietetics): This option offers excellent preparation in the basic sciences and liberal education, a background in food science, and a focus on human needs related to nutrition.  The curriculum is based on the foundation knowledge and skills for entry-level dietitians.  Work experience in nutrition, elective courses, and extracurricular activities develop communication and leadership skills.  Students who plan to become Registered Dietitians (R.D.'s) may apply for a post-baccalaureate dietetic internship

  • Nutrition Science: This option prepares you for graduate-level work in nutrition, related sciences, or professional programs like medicine or dentistry.  Early exploration of graduate or professional school admission requirements is encouraged so that the necessary courses can be incorporated into your Nutrition major.
