International Learning Opportunities

20% of CFANS students study abroad in more than 35 countries

An international experience is increasingly important given the global nature of our society. Any aspect of your program can incorporate an international component, and the University of Minnesota has one of the nation's largest collections of international opportunities. In fact, with over 220 programs in more than 60 countries, we like to say there is a program for every student, every major, and every budget!

The University of Minnesota Learning Abroad Center

For over 20 years, the Learning Abroad Center has been working with students to help create an excellent international learning opportunity. Through advising with international program professionals, the Learning Abroad Center will help you integrate study abroad programs into any undergraduate major or minor.

Study Abroad in CFANS

In addition to those programs offered at the University level, the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences also offers specific to many of the majors housed within the college.

MAST International
MAST International An international exchange program that combines a practical, hands-on, educational experience in agriculture with a classroom experience through the University of Minnesota. These programs include field studies, seminars and work experiences.

International Agriculture Minor
Food, agricultural and environmental systems are international in nature; They bridge national borders, cross cultures and influence regional and global economics. The International Agriculture minor offered through CFANS is designed to bring a focused international dimension to any major. The minor requires a total of 18 credits.

Scholarships and Grants

College-sponsored International Learning Grants

Undergraduate students currently enrolled in CFANS and in good academic standing can apply for international learning grants through the College. Typical award amounts vary from $500 - $3,500 depending upon merit and academic value, quality of the application, and the duration and expenses of the experience.

Applications are due at 4:30 p.m. in 135 Skok Hall on the day of the deadline.

Deadlines are as follows:

October 28
for programs held January or Spring Semester
February 15
for programs  held during May and Summer Session
April 25
for programs held Fall Semester

Study Abroad and International Study Awards

There are several scholarships available to help finance study abroad programs including the Katherine E. Sullivan Scholarship for Study Abroad and others offered through the University of Minnesota's Learning Abroad Center.
