From Dean Allen S. Levine Every day we hear about a
new idea, a growing need or a dream for our emerging biofuels industry.
How can we make corn-based ethanol more efficient? What other crops can
we use to create energy? How can we advance the biofuels industry
faster, better and less expensively than anyone else? Clearly there is
an urgent need for more knowledge and understanding.
The
University of Minnesota College of Food, Agricultural and Natural
Resources is a leading source of answers to these questions and others
like them. More than twenty percent of our faculty are engaged in this
work, and our expertise has attracted more than $15.4 million worth of
research funding in the last five years. We are finding solutions
through science to our energy needs.
The new knowledge we’re
creating is available to you on the Internet (www.cfans.umn.edu) and to
our students in our classrooms. Our goal is to inform you about the
energy choices and constraints that we face. We’re adapting our courses
and hands-on training to better prepare tomorrow’s leaders of the
biofuels industry.
We’ve made a lot of progress, and we’re just
getting started. I invite you to join us on our journey toward more
sustainable energy systems around the globe. |
