Program Description
Applied Economics is the social science that uses economic tools to analyze real-world problems. We have to make choices, as individuals and as a society, among competing alternatives. Applied Economics gives us a way to think about making these choices wisely. Issues such as jobs, wages, taxes, the cost of living, pollution, poverty, and economic growth are, fundamentally, economic issues.

Our Applied Economics program is one of the best in the country.  Our flexible curriculum provides a strong background in economics, written and oral communications, and the liberal arts. This background can be applied to a variety of professional and technical specialization areas:

  • Management and Finance develops your knowledge and expertise to make effective financial decisions on behalf of business owners, managers, governments, and investors.

  • Marketing examines the product and information flows of goods and services throughout the economy and the social and economic implication of these flows for consumers.

  • Food Retailing develops your knowledge of the marketing, processing, and distribution of food products at local, national, and global scales as well as the policies that affect the supply chain that transforms farm inputs into value-added food outputs.

  • Trade and Development provides a broad exposure to policy, international trade, and agricultural development

  • Resources and the Environment applies economic theory to the study and management of the environment and natural resources.

  • Regional and Public Economics examines the application of economics to the decision-making process in the public sector.

  • Individualized offers you flexibility to combine the economics portions of our major with professional preparation in other areas such as communications, pre-law, and business.
