Program Description Housed in our Department of Applied Economics, our Agricultural and Food Business Management program is no ordinary business major. Jointly offered with the Carlson School of Management and our College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences, it is the only dual program of its kind at the University. It draws on the strengths of each college to provide you with access to the professors, research, and resources of two nationally recognized programs. In addition, this partnership guarantees you priority registration for business classes in the Carlson School.
As a student studying Agricultural and Food Business Management, you will learn how to use economic concepts and management tools to effectively identify, analyze, and solve management problems for organizations in food and fiber industries, financial institutions and small companies. Internships are strongly recommended and can count toward degree requirements. In addition to the general required courses, you choose one of four emphasis areas to further specialize your degree.
Business Management provides a broad exposure to a range of general management, human resource, and industrial relations issues. Financial Management develops your analytical skills in the areas of corporate accounting and advanced-level finance. Marketing, Sales, and Food Industries Management can be considered three specialty areas in one with an equal focus on marketing, sales, and management. Individualized Program offers you flexibility to combine the economics and business portions of our major with professional preparation in other areas such as communications, pre-law, and management information systems.
