opportunities for current and future educators at the K-12 level,
modeling innovative, proven, and effective K-12 instructional
strategies for teaching concepts related to the food system. The

Ag Awareness A
three day event sponsored by Animal Science and Agronomy graduate
students. This program provides an interactive, hands-on learning
environment for urban and/or suburban elementary students with little
or no exposure to agriculture. This event is held in May each
year at the Livestock Arena on the University of Minnesota St. Paul
Campus.
Bell Museum of Natural History Special Programs Led
by experienced, enthusiastic interpretive staff, tours provide
in-depth, fact-filled insights into the museum's habitat dioramas,
Touch and See Room, and special exhibits. Tours can be customized to
include topics specific to your class.
Bug Zoo Interactive
display of pinned and living insects of local, regional, national, and
international importance. Display present at the MN State Fair, CFANS
Open House, and UM Homecoming.
Economics Challenge The Minnesota State Economics Quiz Bowl Challenge is a contest for
teams of 3-5 high school students. The challenge takes place in April

Department of Animal Science Youth Programs Youth
and enrichment programs for students specializing in poultry-related
activities. Children participate in activities that teach them the
basics of farm animal biology and agriculture awareness. To participate

F.R.E.E. Network Website for teachers and students of all grade levels who want to learn more about forests and management of forests.
Insect Museum Tours Come
and view the 8th largest university bug collection, with more than
3,300,000 specimens, on a class tour. The museum is located on
the St. Paul Campus.
Investigating Molecular Biology and Biotechnology Summer
institute for teachers consists of nine days of intensive learning
during the summer and two follow-up meetings on campus during the
academic year. In addition to excellent seminars, discussions and
labratory experiences, teachers recieve 3 graduate credit hours, course
materials, meals, parking and lodging (if necessary) FREE! Funding is
provided through a grant from the Minnesota Higher Education
Services Office, Improving Teacher Quality Program. Additional

Junior Master Gardener Program The
Junior Master Gardener Program's mission is "to grow good kids by
igniting a passion for learning, success and service through a unique
gardening education." This program is an international youth gardening
program of the University Cooperative Extension network that teaches
youth independent and group learning experiences, life/skill career
exploration, and the fundamentals of gardening. To

Minnesota Agriculture in the Classroom Minnesota
Agriculture in the Classroom is a unique public/private partnership
between the Minnesota Department of Agriculture and many supporting
organizations and businesses. This school-based program helps students
and educators in grades K-12 gain broad-based agricultural knowledge.
The program's "flagship" publication is the popular student Minnesota

Minnesota Council on Economic Education The
MCEE provides professional development opportunities to K-12 classroom
educators who teach economics and/or personal finance. They offer
workshops, courses, summer camps, student contests, and teaching

Minnesota Food, Land and People Provides
55 teacher tested lessons and technical information support that will
greatly aid the classroom teacher in effectively presenting the
interdependence of our food, land and people into their existing
curriculum.
Monarchs in the Classroom This
program, started by Dr. Karen Oberhauser, is a unique learning
opportunity where students can obtain a solid background for
understanding behavior, ecology, and the evolution of monarch
butterflies. By observing the life cycle of the monarch, students not
only get to communicate interactively with scientists, but better
understand the biology of the monarch. This program offers many

Paper Express Paper Express is a hands-on experience designed to introduce you and your students to paper and paper making.
Raptor Center The
Raptor Center at the University of Minnesota College of
Veterinary Medicine specializes in the medical care,
rehabilitation, and conservation of eagles, hawks, owls, and falcons.
In addition to treating approximately 800 birds a year, the center
offers educational programs including Raptor Camp and birthday parties
STEPP The Secondary Teacher Educator Program
(STEPP) prepares participants to be Family and Consumer Science (FACS)
teachers in grades 5 through 12. In this post-baccalaureate
program, graduates recieve a Master of Education degree from the
University of Minnesota College of Education and Human Development, and
an initial educator's license to prepare youth for their everyday
