| The Siehl Prize for Excellence in Agriculture recognizes living
individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to the production of food
and alleviation of hunger in three separate categories: production, agribusiness, and knowledge. Each
winner or “laureate” receives a monetary award of $50,000 and a beautiful
granite and glass sculpture like the one pictured here by artist Thomas
Rose.
The Siehl Prize is named in honor of philanthropist Eldon
Siehl, a successful Minnesota
businessman who wanted to educate the general public about where their food
came from and to provide recognition for the dedicated people who make it their
life’s work.
The nominee or team of nominees must currently reside or must
have resided in Minnesota for a period of at
least five years or hold a degree from the University of Minnesota. Self –nominations and nominations of
relatives will not be accepted.
