Registration Holds

If you have a college registration hold, you will need to contact the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences Student Services Office (624-6768) to have it removed. Your transcript or APAS will usually list any current holds and the office or location to contact to have the hold removed.  The College Student Services Office is limited to clearing only the holds we assign. There are generally two types of holds that are used by the College.

Orientation (RS) Hold

The first is an orientation hold (RS). If you did not attend orientation when you first enrolled in the college, a hold was put on your record. If you contact us, we can make arrangements for you to participate in the next Orientation session. Your hold will be removed after you participate in an orientation program.

Probation Hold (PB, P3, PC)

The second hold is a probation hold (PB, P3, PC).  Students whose academic work has not met the minimum standards set by the college and the University have probation holds put on their records. Details about scholastic requirements are published in the College Bulletin. The intent of the hold is to ensure that you are working with your advisor to get your academic program back on the right track.

Removing a Probation Hold

To remove the hold for registration:

  1. Make an appointment with your advisor well in advance of your registration date.

  2. Go to the College of Agricultural, Food and Environmental Sciences Student Services Office and ask for a Scholastic Hold Release form.

  3. Visit with your advisor and have him/her sign the form after you have completed your registration plans for the semester.

  4. Return the signed form to the Student Services office. The hold will be cleared within 24 hours. Students who turn in their completed forms by 12:00 noon will have the holds cleared by 8:00 the following morning. Forms turned in by 4:00 pm will have the holds cleared by 12:00 noon the next day.

Campus Resources

Students in academic difficulty should consider investigating campus resources that can assist them with getting their academic program back on track.  Two recommended services are available. The first source is the University Counseling and Consulting Services, 199 Coffey Hall, St. Paul. The counseling staff is available to work with students on personal and or career issues that may be impacting their success in the classroom.

A second source is the Learning and Academic Skills Center, 104 Eddy Hall, Minneapolis. The center offers classes, workshops, and individual assistance to help students better manage their time and be more effective in preparing for class and exams.

Note
If there are holds on your record, you will be prevented from registering until they are cleared. Be sure to check for holds prior to your registration time.
