Prospective Graduate Students

Opportunity

With more than 10,000 graduate students in over 180 disciplines and more than $500 million in federal research funding, the U of M offers a host of opportunities. The main campus is located in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area, which has a population approaching 3 million. The area is a regional center for business, government, culture and nonprofit organizations.

One measure of our excellence is how often our research is cited by other scientists around the world. On this basis, the University of Minnesota is ranked eighth in the world in environment and ecology, 14th in agricultural sciences, and 18th in both plant and animal sciences, and economics and business.

Impact

The University of Minnesota is both a land-grant university and an internationally-recognized research university. This combination results in world-class research programs that truly make a difference in people’s lives. Graduate degree programs coordinated by the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS) reflect the environmental, economic and social diversity of Minnesota. So whatever your passion, you can pursue your interests in CFANS and make an impact.

Support

CFANS offers more than 75 endowed fellowships to support your graduate education. We also offer federally- and state-funded fellowships. These are in addition to other fellowships offered at the University and national levels.

We support seven research and outreach centers around the state and have access to many other locations that give you a real-world setting for your research project. In addition, we have more than 15,000 square feet of greenhouse space, secure bio-containment facilities, unique laboratories, and the 16th largest research library in North America.

CFANS coordinates 13 graduate programs, 4 joint programs, and 2 departmental masters programs.
