Admission Requirements for New Freshmen.
Freshman applicants to the CFANS honors program generally have an ACT composite score of 28 or above, or a class rank in the 90th percentile or above. The Honors Program Committee will consider special circumstances for students who don't meet these requirements.
Freshman-Sophomore Application Procedures and Deadlines.
Students who wish to participate in the freshman-sophomore program must apply and be admitted to the University prior to being reviewed by the CFANS Honors Program Committee.
Students admitted to CFANS are eligible to participate in honors. Students who meet the admission requirements for honors above receive a letter from the Office of Admissions that they will be considered for honors. The College makes a final determination based on space available and mails admitted students a letter of admission to honors. It is important for students interested in honors to apply early since admissions may fill.
The priority deadline for submitting your application for admission to the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences, University of Minnesota is in mid-December each year.

Current CFANS and Transfer Student Admissions.
Current CFANS students and transfer students who have completed between 1 and 30 semester credits of college course work, have an ACT composite score of 28 or above, or a high school class rank in the 90th percentile or above, or a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or above at the college level are eligible for admission to the freshman-sophomore program. Application forms are available in the CFANS Student Services Office, Room 190 Coffey Hall or on the forms and documents page.
Students with over 30 semester credits are encouraged to apply directly to the junior-senior honors program if eligible or contact Gary Cooper, Honors Program Coordinator, to discuss options for honors participation. Admissions to the the Junior-Senior Honors Program. Students who successfully complete the freshman-sophomore honors programs are automatically admitted into the junior-senior program. Transfer and current CFANS students at or near 60 completed credits may apply to participate if they have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 in their previous course work. Students seeking admissions must complete the junior-senior honors program application.
