Petitions

To depart from the printed program requirements, usual procedures, or regulations in your degree, you must file a petition with your advisor and the College of Food, Agriculture and Natural Resource Sciences Student Services Office. Petition forms are available at the the College Student Services office, 190 Coffey Hall, (624-6768) , or at the Office of the Registrar, 130 Coffey Hall.

Consult with your advisor about writing the petition. When preparing the petition, state your request and the reasons for your request.  Write clearly using complete sentences. Poorly written petitions are denied or returned for a re-write. Your advisor will need to sign the petition and make a recommendation for approval. With some College majors, the Major Coordinator will also make a recommendation. Your advisor will know how to process the petition.

Present the completed and signed petition to the College Student Services Office for review by the Scholastic Standing Committee.

Petitions are normally reviewed within a week, and you will be contacted about picking up your petition once a decision has been made.  Keep copies of all petitions until your graduation has been cleared.  Approved petition changes are made on your APAS report.

Petitions relating to any part of the University Liberal Education requirements should be submitted to the college. They are then forwarded to the University's Liberal Education Office for review and action.

Transfer students should process any petitions related to the transfer of credit as soon as possible after transfer.

Note
Petitions are an important mechanism for getting any substitutions, changes, or waivers in your degree program approved. Keep a copy of any petitions you have filed in your records
