Little Red Oil Can Award

2008 Information and Nomination Form

Deadline for Nominations:  Thursday, May 1st, at 4:30 p.m., 2008

The Little Red Oil Can Award was first given in 1916 as an expression of affection and appreciation to Dean E. M. Freeman.  The award was given every year for 59 years until it was retired in 1975.  This was not an award for service, although unselfish service was one of the criteria.  All of the past recipients demonstrated a special concern for others, and interest in the general welfare of the community, and were held in high esteem within the campus structure.

The tradition of the Little Red Oil Can Award was revived in 1995 and continued through 2000.  The members of SPBOC are proud to carry on the tradition of the Little Red Oil Can Award in 2008.  One award will be given in the following categories (if there are worthy candidates): student, staff, faculty, organization and alumni.

Eligibility: St. Paul campus affiliated student, staff or faculty, St. Paul campus organization, or an alumnus of a St. Paul college

Criteria: Nominee has made an outstanding contribution to the enhancement of St. Paul Campus Life resulting in one or more of the following:

  • The Campus is a friendlier and more inclusive place as a consequence of that individual’s or organization’s contribution
  • The academic, research, or service contributions of that individual or organization have strengthened the educational reputation of the St. Paul campus
  • Because of the individual’s or organization’s efforts, the campus has been able to resolve recognized needs in the form of services, facilities, or financial support
  • Campus morale has been strengthened as the result of the service of the individual or organization
  • Campus communication and community sociability has increased as a consequence of the individual’s or organization’s efforts and/or example

NOTE: The quality of nomination will affect selection of award recipients.

This award is given out through the help of volunteers on the St. Paul campus and administered by the St. Paul Board of Colleges.
