The College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences Honors Program is designed to promote and recognize outstanding academic achievement. Honors students explore current topics in natural resources, agriculture and related sciences and gain experience conducting high quality research, while enjoying advantages such as small honors courses, honors advising, St. Paul campus Scholars Housing, and membership in an honors community.

Students have the opportunity to participate in freshman-sophomore and junior-senior honors programs.

In the freshman-sophomore honors program, students participate in honors courses and honors colloquia focusing on current issues of interest with students from many majors. Honors students who successfully complete the freshman-sophomore honors program requirements are recognized by a certificate of completion and designation on the student transcript.

The heart of the junior-senior honors program is completion of an honors research project, supervised by a faculty mentor. Students also participate in an honors seminars. The junior-senior honors experience culminates in an honors thesis, an oral presentation of the research project, and special recognition at the college graduation ceremony.  Students successfully completing the junior-senior program with a GPA of 3.5 or greater over their last 60 credits earn Latin honors on their diploma.

What are the advantages of participating in Honors?

Besides the academic enrichment that the honors program provides in special colloquia, courses, seminars, and research, honors students benefit in many ways. You have the opportunity to work closely with faculty, participate in an annual honors retreat, attend special seminars, participate in a mentoring program, and become involved in planning special events within CFANS. Honors students can participate in St. Paul Scholars housing in Bailey Hall as live-in mentors.
