Freshman Orientation
All first-year students new to the University attend a two-day orientation session.  Your orientation will provide an introduction to the University community, and College specific majors, programs and student organizations. This experience has been developed to assure that you have a good sense of policies, resources, advising and all that it takes to be successful in CFANS.

The following checklist will help you prepare for your orientation and first year experience:

  • Once you receive your CFANS orientation invitation (mid-April), choose your orientation session.
  • Complete your chemistry and math placement tests by May 30.  These test results will help you and your advisor determine the best course levels for you.
  • Explore student learning community options along with all the opportunities available to you at the U of M.
  • Complete the registration tutorial.
  • Initiate your student internet account AND bring your internet id and password to Orientation.
  • Come to your chosen orientation date ready to learn, meet new people, and enjoy the experience!
  • Take the online Learning Styles Assessment and bring your results to orientation
  • Attend Welcome Week, August 27- September 1, and reconnect with friends from Orientation.
