The College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences holds only one commencement ceremony each year and it is held at the end of spring semester. All students who have completed, or will be completing their degree during the calendar year, are invited to attend the event. The ceremony is generally held on the first weekend of May.
When and where does the commencement ceremony take place?
The CFANS commencement ceremony is held in the Northrop Memorial Auditorium and is generally held first weekend of May. Dates for this year's commencement ceremony can be found online at the University's Commencement Homepage.
Will I receive an invitation from the College to participate in commencement?
Yes, the CFANS Student Services office mails invitations directly to CFANS students who have applied for graduation. We will use your "current address" as listed on your application for degree, so please make sure that information is correct.
Generally, if you are finishing your degree by the end of spring, summer, or fall semester you are eligible to participate in spring commencement ceremonies
You must file your graduation application form by the spring deadline as listed on OneStop in order to be identified as someone eligible to participate in the graduation ceremonies. Please direct questions on specific eligibility requirements to the CFANS Student Services office.
How do I get a cap and gown for the commencement ceremony?

Pick up your cap and gown, order announcements, complete student loan exit interviews, prepare for life after commencement, and more. Students can also buy the required graduation costume at the University of Minnesota bookstores at Coffman Union, St. Paul Student Center or online.
