The 12th Annual Classes Without Quizzes program was held Saturday, April 6 in the Continuing Education and Conference Center on the St. Paul Campus.
The 2013 program featured keynote speaker Michael Sadowsky, a professor with the Department of Soil, Water and Climate, and Director of the Biotechnology Institute, who spoke about the Minnesota Mississippi Metagenome Project (M3P). Other "classes" included topics such as beer & hops, genome sequencing, dairy robots, bio-mimicry, amazing plant molecules, Emerald Ash Borer, and healthy soils.
Youth participants in our special Kids' Edition explored the St. Paul campus through geo-caching, rock climbing and creating edible experiments with Professor Sepoc's "Food Messology" course. View the full program schedule.
The 2013 Classes Without Quizzes program was produced in collaboration with the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences Alumni Society and the College of Biological Sciences.
This annual half-day learning event was created in 2000 to reconnect alumni and help the general public better understand how the work of CFANS faculty affects the daily lives of Minnesotans.
All participants will attend a keynote session, and then select two breakout sessions of his/ her choice.
Youth will attend their own specially designed activity sessions concurrent with the adult keynote and breakout sessions. Their program will consist of hands-on, fun educational and recreational activities nearby on campus led by University of Minnesota Youth & Community Programs. Participants will be divided into age-appropriate groups for their activities and will reunite with the adult participants after the program.
