Biomass Feedstock Engineering - Densification and Moisture Management

Date Approved:  8/26/04
Amount:  $39,917 (2004), $36,583 (2005), $12,825 (2006)
Lead:  R. Vance Morey, Department of Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering
Contact Person:  R. Vance Morey, Department of Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering

Benefits and Deliverables:
The researchers work will further the development and evaluation of strategies for handling biomass materials, including field drying versus artificial drying, pelleting versus handling in bale form, and energy relationships for various alternatives.

Laboratory-scale Study on Hydrogen in a Fermentative Bioreactor Semi-continuously Fed by Swine Manure

Date Approved:  1/20/05
Amount:  $39,832
Lead:  Jun Zhu, Southern Research and Outreach Center (Waseca)
Contact Person:  Jun Zhu, Southern Research and Outreach Center

Benefits and Deliverables:
  • A progress report will be submitted every six months on the work completed by that time and a final report will be submitted upon the completion of the project.
  • As the project moves along, information related to the findings in this project will be made known in different format such as seminars and printed materials.
  • The technology developed and tested in this study will be transferred to related companies to seek potential production of biohydrogen at industrial scale.
  • Results from this project will also be published in peer-review journals, and other publication outlets as well.
